The Secret to Battling Chronic Lyme Disease? Never Give Up!

Updated: Feb 16, 2020

Babe Ruth gets the credit for one of my favorite quotes, “[i]t’s hard to beat a person who never gives up.”  If you’re currently battling chronic Lyme disease or any chronic health crisis, I want you to write this quote down someplace prominent where you will see it every day.

Chronic health challenges can take nearly everything out of you.  I’ve been there, and I know how it feels to be a living dead person.  I was sick for almost a decade, and bedridden for a solid two years with Lyme, CFS, and autoimmune disease. When you lose your health, it’s easy to let the weight of your circumstances bury you.  You feel so exhausted and hopeless that some days it feels easier and preferable to throw in the towel and succumb to your nightmare. But getting well depends upon your relentless pursuit of health, even when you feel like it’s a lost cause.

Consistency, a warrior's mindset, and devotion are absolutely key to recovering your health.  What you do each and every day is going to determine your outcome.  Make all of your choices good ones!

It’s very important that you keep your eye on the prize and stick with your protocol when the days get tough.  Keep doing the heavy lifting of eating well, taking your herbal remedies, exercising (if you can), practicing meditation, and following your plan. There were endless days, weeks, and months where I felt I was making little to no progress.  I was doing everything right, yet everything remained all wrong. But remember, healing takes time and patience. Your gains may not be evident on a day-to-day basis. Perhaps you are like me, and your gains are only evident year-over-year. It may not always feel like your efforts are paying off, but believe me, they will over time.

You must also fight the battle in your mind. There is a scene in Shawshank Redemption, which I mention in my book, where the character Red says, "get busy living, or get busy dying." Precisely! The choice is always yours. No matter where you find yourself today, healing is possible with the proper mindset and dedication. Are you going to remain mired in pity and defeat, expecting the worst outcome? Or, are you going to focus on wellness and envision yourself recovered? Whatever you focus upon, your body will manifest. Don't lose the battle in your mind by dwelling on your defeats. Instead, view your illness as one chapter of your life. There will be other chapters to follow, and you have a lot of living left to do! Accept where you are today and enjoy your life with all of its difficulty, knowing this too shall pass. Everything in life changes; your health is no exception.

Always stay the course and don’t let self pity kill your progress.  Be disciplined and devoted to your diet and protocol, and don't let negative thinking sabotage your efforts. Remember, it’s so very hard to beat the person who doesn’t give up!
